An assembly line is a manufacturing process in which interchangeable parts are added to a product in a sequential manner to create a finished product. The assembly line was first used by Henry Ford and his engineers but took after the idea of 'disassembly lines'. Ford was also the very first to build factories around that concept. It is widely considered to be the catalyst which initiated the modern consumer culture.

It has its origins within the historical struggles of workers and their trade unions internationally for solidarity between working people in their struggles to win fair employment standards and more importantly, to establish a culture of human and worker rights and to ensure that these are enshrined in international law and the national law of those countries aligned to the International Labour Organisation.
