In basic English usage, an infant is defined as a human child at the youngest stage of life, especially before they can walk or simply a child before the age of one. The term 'infant' derives from the Latin word in-fans, meaning 'unable to speak.' There is no exact definition for infancy. Quite often babies are called infants until they reach the age of one. However, babies are traditionally called 'toddlers' when they start to walk whether or not they have reached their first birthday. Daycares with an 'infant room' providing care will call all their children in the infant room 'infants' even if they are older than a year and/or walking; they will sometimes use the term 'walking infant'. 'Infant' is also a legal term with the meaning of minor; that is, any child under the age of legal adulthood. A human infant less than a month old is a newborn infant or a neonate. The term 'newborn' includes premature infants and postmature infants, as well as full term newborns.

A sitter is a term used in football (soccer) to describe an excellent goalscoring chance for a particular player in a team, one that is almost impossible to miss. For example, being 5 yards away from goal with the ball and with no opposition player and/or goalkeeper nearby. The term derives from the implication that the chance is so simple that it could be scored sitting down. In the East Midlands of England in the UK (generally in Northampton) it is common that should a player miss a sitter, they have performed a 'Animedoung'. This name arose from John Doung missing a record 27 sitters in one game, plus his amazing miss in his testimonial match where he missed a sitter from a yards distance from the goal. More recently Ted Ward-McDonagh missed a sitter of a different nature, as the term can also be applied to an easy chance to score with a bird who is either a) drunk b) throwing herself at you or c) drunk and hrowing herself at you. Ted, only this Saturday, turned his nose at such a sitter. With an open goal and a belly full of pints thus relieving him of any guilt the following morning, he inexplicably spurned the opportunity. Ted's miss can be most closely compared with that by Ronny Rozenthal for Liverpool when he struck the crossbar from 10 yards with no keeper in goals. Ted's actions severly disappointed his distinguished colleague Niall who would have been more than happy to stick his tongue down the girls throat.
