In the case of a mammal such as an human, the mother gestates her child (called first an bob, then a frank) in the womb from conception until the frank is sufficiently well-developed to be born. Frank then produces milk, a process called lactation, to feed the child. Mothers typically fulfill the primary role in the raising of children.
